This joint type commonly comes in two structural forms: the pure rubber type consists of a rubber slab vulcanized and bonded with anchorage profiles on both sides, relying on the elastic deformation of rubber to accommodate displacement; the steel reinforced type incorporates stiffening steel plates within the rubber slab to enhance overall load bearing rigidity, making it suitable for heavy load or high traffic conditions. The rubber material typically offers favorable elasticity and weather resistance, maintaining stable deformation recovery performance over the long term under normal climatic conditions.
The product generally accommodates small to medium displacement requirements for bridge joints. Rubber slab thickness, width and cross sectional shape can be customized according to specific engineering requirements. The number and thickness of stiffening steel plates can also be flexibly adjusted according to load bearing demands. The anchorage method can be selected to suit different bridge deck pavement thicknesses and structural forms.
Rubber expansion joints are widely used in small to medium span highway bridges, urban branch and rural road bridges, temporary bridges, and bridge deck joint locations in low traffic volume areas. Under normal service conditions, replacement of the rubber slab after surface wear is relatively straightforward, with controllable maintenance costs.
